Program Overview
Wednesday, August 27, 2025
Social Excursion to Sprogø (Limited to 40 participants)
We begin our conference with a guided tour of Sprogø, known for its historical women’s institution that operated from 1923 to 1961. The island housed women deemed ‘morally deviant’ by society, many of whom were institutionalized against their will. This visit will provide insight into past social care practices and ethical dilemmas while offering a chance to reflect on historical approaches to marginalized groups. A unique opportunity to network in an informal setting while exploring an important piece of Danish history.

9.30- 10.00 | Congress opening Remember the Whole Tooth with Jacob Nossell Dental care is incredibly important for everyone – including people with disabilities. Both physically, mentally, and psychologically. However, as a professional, there are several factors to be aware of when treating people with disabilities in dental care.
In this keynote, journalist and comedian Jacob Nossell, who himself lives with Cerebral Palsy, will discuss what matters to people with disabilities when it comes to dental care.
Among other things, he will highlight that good dental care is not just about the functionality of it but just as much about saying hi before drilling – and understanding the person’s life situation.
Jacob Nossell has worked with disability, communication, and advocacy for more than 20 years. He is also the Vice Chairman of CP Denmark, the association for Cerebral Palsy in Denmark.
Finally, he has received several honorary awards for his dedication to the disability movement. |

12.45 -13.45 | Shortend Dental Arch with Professor Klaus Gotfredsen Shortened dental arch (SDA), in a special care dentistry view The principles for SDA were develop by a Dutch research-group, who publish a high number of publications in the late eighties and early nineties. SDA became a very recognized treatment concept especially in gerontology and the global south. WHO based accordingly several guidelines on the concept- Thus, in 1992 as well on 2013 WHO in Oral Health Surveys stated that a functional and aesthetic dentition requires no less than 20 well distributed teeth. The concept challenged the former principle of the need for 28 teeth for sufficient oral function. More recent publications have, however, shown that the replacement of teeth in dentitions with 20 teeth an especially in dentitions with intermediate tooth spaces increase the oral health related quality of life by most citizens. It has also been shown that by increasing the number of functional units, the chewing efficiency will increase, and the risk of tooth migration, loss of vertical dimension and bite collapse will decrease. However, for specific groups in society e.g., dentistry for elderly, special cares dentistry the SDA concept is still a very useful treatment principle. In many cases patients will benefits when dentist is using the SDA principle instead of using very complex and time-consuming treatments. The lecture will try to focus on when and how sufficient functional and aesthetic dentitions can be established in special care dentistry. CV Klaus Gotfredsen, Professor and Chairman at Department of Oral Rehabilitation at Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. Graduated in 1984 from School od Dentistry, University of Aarhus. Received a Danish Ph.D. degree in 1990 from University of Copenhagen an a Swedish doctor degree in 2001 from Department of Periodontology of the Sahlgrenska Academy at University of Gothenburg. Is former board member an President of the European Association for Osseointegration (EAO) and board member in several dental Societies including Scandinavian Society of Prosthetic Dentistry. He has published more than 150 scientific papers and 200 abstracts, serves as reviewer for a great number of clinical and scientific journals and has lectured extensively nationally and internationally. Major subject areas for research are implant dentistry and prosthetic dentistry including 3D-dentistry, biomaterial and oral health related quality of life.
