The Importance of Multiprofessional Team Efforts in Patients with Orofacial Dysfunctions: The Speech-Language Pathologists and Orthodontists Perspective

We are thrilled to present a session on the essential collaboration between speech-language pathologists (SLP) and orthodontists when treating patients with orofacial dysfunctions. This session will be led by two experts in their fields: Åsa Mogren, an experienced SLP, and Christina Havner, a specialist in orthodontics, both working at Mun H Center in Gothenburg.

Orofacial dysfunctions, which can range from speech and swallowing difficulties to severe malocclusions, require a multidisciplinary approach for optimal patient care. SLPs and orthodontist togethers can provide comprehensive treatment plans that address both functional and aesthetic concerns.

Åsa and Christina will share their experiences of working in a multiprofessional team, through cases and real-life examples, they will demonstrate how collaboration between their different professions leads to improved treatment effectiveness and enhances the patient experience.

This session is an excellent opportunity for healthcare professionals from various disciplines to gain valuable insights into the benefits of a multiprofessional approach and learn how to integrate these practices into their own work. Both Åsa and Christina also have experience of multiprofessional research projects. Åsa has a PhD in medical science and Christina is a PhD student in odontology.
